Grandchildren

Well, it has been a long time since I have been here. Obviously I have a busy life!

Archie & Nash
Since the visit to the Blue Mountains, which is always an enjoyable weekend, two new twiglets have been added to the family tree.

My son and daughter-in-law are proud parents of two adorable little boys and they will be great mates too!

A few months back we had a trip to Warwick. Dad had a fall up the back steps and fractured his upper arm and thigh. He was in a bit of a mess for a while but is on the mend now. He is a bit like me, hasn't got time to stay still. Actually, I bit like him!

Warwick is a nice place to stay. Well, at the time I was there (September) the weather was pleasant, although I took lots of winter clothes and then had to make a trip to the shops to get some spring/summer clothes.

Mum is with my sister at Camden way. We visit Mum on a regular basis. Although we wouldn't dare visit without the boiled fruit cake. Not sure if she is pleased to see us or the fruitcake!!!  :-) She is doing ok taking everything in her stride, God bless her cotton socks.

Late September, I went to the ACT & NSW Association of Family History Societies Conference held at the Tradies, Gymea by Botany Bay Family History Society. I came away with lots of new tools to assist with family history and of course one was blogging :-)

My daughter has finally found a nest on acres. For years she has had a dream of living on property. Well, she got her horse a few years ago and now she is about to experience life on the land. She is in her element at the moment. The boys are loving it too. Very fortunate to be on property so close to town with all the amenities.

We've got to have our dreams.

Well, hope I get back to this blog sooner than I did last time.

See you then!

Before I finished I had a browse through my photographs.
Do you recognise any one in the photo?
A few hints:
It is female.
She is in the second row.
It was taken at Leadville, NSW.

Blackheath Weekend

Well, tomorrow I am off to Blackheath with my daughter, daughter in law, sister, sister in laws, nieces and friends. The weather is predicted to be cold and wet but what the heck. We can't control the weather but we can control the fun we will have.
Say tuned for the update on Monday.

We had a fun time at Clanwilliam. Cozy inside and cool outside. The younger ones experienced the local entertainment on Friday night at the New Ivanhoe Pub. Sightseeing on Saturday to Megalong Valley Farm then to the Three Sisters. Some lunched at the Katoomba Chinese whilst others dined on coffee and were entertained by people watching. The younger ones again checked out the talent at the Gardiners Inn in the evening.

A hearty breakfast on Sunday and a browse around the Lawson Local Grower's Markets. The "Roasted Almonds in Tiramisu Honey" is to die for and I just can't wait to fold a few spoonfuls of Butterscotch Honey through ice cream.....Yummo!! Sounds Delic!!!!!

Thanks Ali for the loan of the Lucy Family Alphabet.........I can relate to some of the events. The author certainly relates a lot of humour into events that others would need to consult a shrink about.
Perhaps if we adopted her humour into our real life situations we would live a happier life.
The book really does send home the saying 'what's normal".

Well girls, thanks heaps for making the weekend a good one and I am looking forward to next year. Those who want to go had better book in early as I think the beds will fill quickly.

Family Tree Update

I recently attended a Family History Guest Speaker event. One of the speakers discussed 'Researching your Convict Ancestors'. She suggested that if you come across an ancestor's death certificate that has very little information it is usually a clue that they may have been a convict and were trying to hide their past from their children. This statement rang some bells. My great great grandfather, John Parker was a brick wall. All I knew was that he came from Lancashire, according to the information his wife noted on his death certificate. Parents were 'not known'.
I searched the Queensland State Records convict database and bingo! I found a John Parker from Lancashire who was the same age as my John Parker.
Additional research found that John, his brother Ambrose and his father, John (the elder/Snr.) were all transported to Australia for 'Larceny'.
John Snr, arrived on board Mary Anne in late 1835 and John Jnr, and Ambrose arrived on board 'John Barry' in 1836.
I hope to find additional information regarding the court hearing which was at the Lancaster Quarter Sessions.
To be continued........
If you would like additional information, please contact me.
